Landscape Stewardship Certificates of Appreciation - 2010

Don Meares, PLF Alaska State Representative presents PLF's Landscape Stewardship Certificate of Appreciation to Joette Storm, President of the Friends of Campbell Creek Science Center.

THE PUBLIC LANDS FOUNDATION presents Joette Storm, President of the Friends of the Campbell Creek Science Center, with a Landscape Stewardship Certificate of Appreciation and this Citation.  The Foundation grants this recognition to honor private citizens and organizations that work to advance and sustain community-based stewardship on landscapes that include, in whole or in part, public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Joette Storm, a BLM volunteer, has contributed tireless support for science education at BLM’s Campbell Creek Science Center and has played a critical role in its success.  Thanks to her enthusiasm, dedication, and leadership, the Friends group has involved 100 local businesses, organizations, and citizens; raised nearly $185,000 for program support; leveraged more than $65,000 in in-kind contributions; and offered scholarships to economically-disadvantaged youth.

Since 2005, Joette Storm and the Friends group have provided exceptional service to the BLM by raising community awareness of the Center, enhancing the Center’s educational outreach efforts, increasing access to underserved audiences, and strengthening community partnerships and funding for Center initiatives.  As a result, the Center is a more responsive, volunteer-friendly, and financially sustainable asset for the Anchorage community and Southcentral Alaska.

Joette and the board started an active promotional campaign, and in part due to their efforts, the number of visitors served increased from 38,000 in 2005 to 57,000 in 2009.

Recently, under Joette’s leadership, the board has contributed significant financial resources to enhance a variety of important community projects at the Science Center.  Some of the funding multiplied dollars received by the Science Center from the DOI National Youth Initiative.
Thanks particularly to Joette Storm’s networking skills, BLM has been able to strengthen traditional partnerships and develop a whole new suite of new community partners.

The Public Lands Foundation is pleased to present Joette Storm with this Citation and a Certificate of Appreciation for invaluable contributions to the stewardship of America’s public landscapes.
