Outstanding Public Lands Professional Awards - 1999
Manager/Managerial - Administrative Category
LES ROSENKRANCE, Director of the Office of Fire and Aviation for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) located in Boise, Idaho, is our Outstanding Public Lands Professional for 1999. The award was presented to Les on February 10, 2000, in Washington, D. C. at a special awards ceremony in the BLM Director’s Office
Les was nominated by his peers, not only for an outstanding career with BLM, but for his leadership in handling very sensitive matters involving two major wild land fires that destroyed not only private property, but where several fire fighters lost their lives.
Les has made a difference, not only in his long career of natural resources management, but in the welfare of employees throughout the BLM and his sensitivity to the people affected by wild fire.
He led the investigative team of the South Canyon fire in 1994 where several fire fighters died. And again Les set the tone and direction of how BLM would respond to the 1999 fire near Lewiston, California, where many residences were destroyed.
